Message for March 29, 2025: What is God like?

Message topic: What is God like?

 Scripture text: John 1: 1-18

Have you ever at any time in a conversation with anyone who is or is not a believer in Christ, that you identify yourself as a son or daughter of God? What would your answer be if they would have asked you what does your father God look like?

Do you believe that they would think you are just making up a conversation? Not really, since no one can come into this world, without a father, today there are many fathers and mothers who did not live long enough so that their new born could recognize them, so it is not strange for one to say God is my father, but I cannot describe him physically. Our God has no physical form.

We learn in the book of Exodus chapter 33, after Moses had led the Israelites out of Egypt, he wanted to see the one with whom he was dealing since he was first sent to King Pharaoh in Egypt. Listen to this conversation with God and Moses starting with verse 16-20. Of Exodus 33.

Moses said to God, for wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? Is it not in that thou goes with us? so shall we be separated?  I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

Then the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. then Moses said, I beseech thee, (I beg you,) show me thy glory.

Then the Lord said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. Then he said: thou canst not see my face for there shall no man see me and live.

How is God describe in the scripture? In the Bible God is described as a loving, merciful, Holy, powerful, and eternal being, among other attributes, often using imagery and metaphor to convey His nature and character. Here’s a more detailed look at how God is described in the Bible.

Listen to these attributes of God: the bible emphasizes God’s love for humanity, as seen in the N/T description of God loving the world so much that he sent His son, Jesus to save them. Who is so loving to give his only son to save their enemy?

There is none with Mercy and Grace as God does, God is portrayed as compassionate and gracious. slow to anger, and abounding in love and faithfulness.

In the bible God is described as holy, separate from all moral defilement and hostile towards it: He has power and sovereignty: God is depicted as all powerful and sovereign, meaning He is supreme and His creation cannot thwart His purposes.

In the bible God is eternal: the bible teaches that God has always existed, He is eternal and unchanging. In the bible God is described as a Spirit being, not a physical being, and therefore His appearance is not like anything we can describe.

In the bible God is described as truth; incorruptible, and cannot lie. He is Father: Jesus consistently referred to God as my father and experienced God as a source of infinite love.

In the bible God is described as the Creator and overseer of our lives; He is a consuming fire: fire is a frequent symbol of God and His judgement against sin.

The bible uses light to represent God’s glory and majesty: while fire is used to symbolize God’s power and judgement.

In the bible father is the concept of God as a father is used to convey His care and love for humanity.

In the bible God is sometimes described as a shepherd caring for his people like a shepherd cares for his flock.

In the bible God is referred to as a rock, a source of strength and stability, we also know that God is described as a King, ruling over all creation.

We just heard some of the known qualities of God which makes Him equal to no other in heaven or on earth; we also know that the words of Jesus are true, and he told us that He and His father are one, and if you have seen the me, you have seen the father, I and the father are one.

Now, I would like each of us to ask ourselves this question, can we be like God having all the qualities that He has? All the qualities of the father was in Jesus, that is why He was able and truthfully say I and the father are one.

Now think of this, when we accepted Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He in His Spirit form, came into our hearts to abide with us with all His attributes and makes us new creatures, this is the only way we can get rid of our old barber rets nature with which we were born.

Now we can all say, redeemed-how I love to pro-claim it! Redeemed by the blood of the lamb; redeemed through His infinite mercy, His child, and forever we are. Redeemed and so happy in Jesus, no language my rapture can tell, I know that the light of His presence with me shall continually dwell.

When we accepted Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior He redeemed, yes, He redeemed us and makes us His children forever. What did Jesus brought into our lives and left with us when He returned to the father in heaven?

He left with us the memory of our heavenly father that we were made in his image and likeness with all His nature; Jesus came into our lives and renewed all the things which we had lost when we disobeyed the command given to the man Adam, Jesus coming into our lives to show us the way to regain all that we had with God our Father in the beginning, because we were made in His image and likeness.

What happen to our love for each other today, our justice, our gentleness, and all the attributes which Jesus left with us? Before Jesus left this earth, He made this promise to all mankind.

I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am there you will be also, are you thanking Him for his rescue plan?

Remember His words are true today as they have ever been, and are for who so ever will listen to him and come to the Father through Him.

Follow, follow,I will follow Jesus anywhere,  everywhere, I will follow on, anywhere leads me I will follow on.
