Message topic: Two fathers sending forth their sons.
Scripture text: 1ST Samuel 9:15-20.
In 1st Samuel chapter nine, we learned that there was a man by the name of Kish a Benjamite, who had a son by the name of Saul, a choice young man, and goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person than he: from his shoulders and upward he was higher than any of the people.
The asses of Kish Saul’s father were lost. And Kish said to Saul his son, take now one of the servants with thee, and arise, go seek the asses.
In their search, they pass through mount Ephraim, the land of Shalisha, but they found them not, they continue and pass through the land Shalim, so they continue to pass through the land of the Benjamite’s, but they found them not.
Now as they got to the Zuph, Saul said to his servant that was with him, let us return; lest my father leave caring for the asses, and take thought for us.
The servant then said to him, there is a man in this city, a man of God, he is an Honorable man; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go and see if he can tell us where to find the asses.
In those days, a prophet was called a seer, so as soon as they enter the city they inquired how to find the seer, and they were told that he was right there next to them:
God had told Samuel the day before that tomorrow he was going to send a man out of the land of Benjamin and thou shalt anoint him to be captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hands of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me.
Now when Samuel saw Saul, the, the Lord said unto him, behold the man whom I spoke to thee of! This same shall reign over my people. Saul drew near to Samuel and said, tell me, I pray thee, where the seer’s house is.
Samuel answered Saul, and said I am the seer: go up before me unto the high place; for ye shall eat with me today, and tomorrow I will let thee go, and will tell thee
all that is in thine heart, and for thine asses that were lost three days ago, set not thy mind on them; for they are found.
Saul and his servant were now ready to return home, but they were told by Samuel to tarry for a while and have a meal with him, unknown to them that the Lord had told Samel about the encounter he was going to have with Saul: he should anoint him to be the leader of his people the Israelites who needed someone to lead them against the Philistine, who is always oppressing them and he should anoint Saul for this position.
Then Samuel took a vial of oil and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said it is not because the Lord hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance.
Was Saul always faithful to the commands of God? The answer is no, for that reason God caused an evil spirit to come upon him and he could only get rid of it through music; so David a shepherd boy was brought in to play the harp to sought his mind, but he soon became jealous of David and wanted to kill him.
God rejected Saul as King of Israel when he refused to do the task to destroy all the Amalekites, man and beast, from the least to the greatest, but he did that which pleased himself, and saved who and what pleased him.
It is stated that there were two fathers who sent their sons seeking, we just learned the result of Kish and his son Saul: so, who was the other father and son? And what do we know about them?
We know that soon after the birth of this son, He had some visitors from other countries proclaiming who this child really was, so he had was to be taken to another country to save his life, and was not able to return to the country of his birth until after the death of the one who was King in the days of his birth.
We next learned of Him when He was 12 years old and separated from his parents for three days, when asked about His action, He replied, I must be about my father’s business? He grew up as a normal obedient child.
Just as Saul had an encounter with a prophet to whom God had spoke to about him, this child who is now grown had a prophet who was considered strange to the other religious leaders who was talking about one that was coming who would do much greater things than they see him doing, because He is greater than all.
One day He simple walked in to presence of the prophet John who proclaimed, this is the one of whom I have been telling you of: who will be coming after me though He was before me: He came and said to me I need to be baptized of you: and so it happened, and when He came up out of the water, His father’s voice could be heard from heaven saying, this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.
From then He went forth making disciples of whosoever will listen to him: He heal the sick, raised the dead, and telling the reason and responsibility He had to all mankind: for God sent not His son into the world to condemned the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
God Sent His Son, they called Him Jesus, He came to love heal, and forgive; He lived and died to buy the pardon of all mankind, An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives. Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, because He lives all fear is gone; because I know He holds the future, and life is worth the living just because He lives. What commands did he leaves for us if we want to see and to be drawn to Him forever? The last meal which He had with His disciples of which we are a part of, He gave us instructions what to do and the reason for doing this act which we will be doing right now: which is referred to as Communion.
