Message topic: But God!
Scripture text: Genesis 31: 40-44
When I gave the topic of our program for today to sister Vivian as But God: she asked, is this what you want the program to be, But God? I responded yes this is what I want. Then it came to me, she is reflecting on our early English teaching, that it is not proper to start a sentence with certain words, which includes but.
This is not an English class, but let me say this: But is one of five conjunction: listen to the use of but in this statement: except for the fact, would have protested but that he was afraid.
We are going to focus today on the many verses in the bible which starts with the word but God and His faithfulness to mankind through the ages. In Genesis 8:1, we find these words.
But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the Ark, and God made a wind blow over the earth and the water subsided. This is the first but God we will encounter.
In Genesis 21: 12 we find these words; BUT God said to Abraham, be not displeased because of the boy and because of your slave woman. Whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for through Isaac shall your offspring be named.
We find these words in Genesis 31: 6-7, you know that I have served your father with all my strength, yet your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times, But God did not permit him to harm me.
Before I go on, let me share with you how the Bible explain the phrase but God: the phrase “but God” often introduces a message of God’s compassion and intervention. It can also signal a pivotal change that happens after a time of despair or crisis, and can show God’s power and authority in seemingly hopeless situation. For example, but God, being rich in mercy, because of the love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ” But God moments can also signify God’s strength, deliverance, and mercy in times of adversity.
“But God” moments in the bible are where God intervenes in dire circumstances, these moments are found throughout both the Old and New testaments, they exemplify God’s power to transform defeat into victory. by examining various stories, like those of Noah, Joseph, and Peter, we see God’s saving grace and strength in times of trails.
But God is found from the first pages of scripture on through the New Testament scripture in its entirety points to Christ Jesus, the Messiah. The O/T accounts reminds us of the power of God to flip evil on its head.
David new there was nothing that could separate him from God. He wrote, my flesh and my heart was nothing that could separate him from God, but God is the strength of my heart and my (Psalm 73: 26.)
In the N/T, we are reminded that Jesus is God with us, defeating death. Paul wrote, I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth; 1st. Corinthians 3;6.
“But God” is at the Heart of the Gospel Message. We Still look forward to the final BUT God moment, when Jesus will return to right every wrong, heal every hurt and dry every tear. There will be no more sadness, no more death, pain or heartache injustice and establish God’s Kingdom on earth.
The world we live in is a mess, It’s fallen, cursed and sinful. Our enemy wreaks havoc, injustice seems to prevail, and innocent people suffer, but Jesus, But God. The story is not over yet, God’s plan is perfect, His intent was to rescue us all along. Though we rebel and the world is sin-cursed, He reigns in sovereign control
To follow Christ is to gain an everlasting hope, and eternal life with God in heaven. these two words, but God, tell us that we have been saved only by God’s grace. My flesh and my heart fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. PALM 73: 26.
But God is the two best words to hear in a story, God is so good to his children.
This can be evidenced through the scripture which is full of But God moments. When you are in a season where you are waiting on God, encourage your faith by reading through some of your favorite But God moments in the scripture, such as Romans 6:23. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1st. Corinthians 10;13 tells us that there is no temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; But God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able. Now listen to Acts 13: 29-30 stated that when they had carried out all that was written about him, they took Him down from the cross and laid him in a tomb, But God raised him from the dead.
My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever, Psalm 73: 26.
You intended to harm me, But God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
Jesus looked at them and said, with man this is impossible, But with God all things are possible. This is from Matthew 19: 26. My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever: recorded for us in Psalm 73: 26.
Paul reminded us that we once dead in trespasses and sins in which you once walked, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved, and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. This is recorded for us in Ephesians 2:1-6.
Through the inspiration of God’s Spirit, Peter puts it this way, once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people: once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (1 Peter 2: 10)
The word but in the scripture often introduces the message of the gracious and compassionate intervention of God. This simple term captures the nature of our God. He redeems, resurrects, and makes all things new. all seems lost and then we here, But God. He intervenes, He saves.
If you are a Christian, you have both a “But God” “moment, and you have an in order that. As Paul explained to the Ephesians, But God is the story for every believer. You were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved, and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:1-6).
