Message topic: I am not my own
Scripture: 1st Corinthians 6: 14-20
It is a short statement we have to think about this morning as our topic of reflection; it says, I am not my own, but let me add, neither are you.
We are here this morning because the one who is in control of our thought and action desires that we be here to encourage and teach other in our desire to be obedient to Him because we are not our own, and He wants us to understand and to follow the way He is leading us day by day.
What do I mean in saying that we are not our own? As we reflect back on the origin of mankind, we will find that God our heavenly Father made us in His own image and likeness to serve or please Him.
As time went by, one of the other creation (not made) of God, through pride was separated from his place of honor to roam the earth: there he encounter man, and with his craftiness was able to introduce pride to man which cause him to disobeyed the command given to him by God, which cost him his place with the Holy God.
When God created the world, He choose a spot to plant a garden, and He called that area Eden, which in the bible represents a perfect paradisiacal state, a place of abundance and harmony where Adam and Eve were placed by God, whom He had made in His own image and likeness.
It signifies a state of innocence, bliss, and divine relationship before the fall of humanity. The name Eden itself is believed to be derived from Akkadian and Sumerian plain or delight, suggesting a place of pleasure and abundance.
However, the bible also suggests that the concept of evil predates human sin, with the fall of Satan and other angels being seen as the initial source of wickedness.
We have no knowledge of how long after the angels revolted in heaven, and was cast out including Lucifer, that they made contact with Adam and his wife Eve.
There is much about Eden which we do not know or understand, but what we do know is that it was a beautiful garden which was planted by God himself that would bring all the comfort this couple would ever need
Among the many things which we do not know, is how the occupants of the garden accepted these new creatures; did they know who they were and where they were from, and why they were here on earth? How was he able to convince them that going against what God told them not to do would not hurt, but do them good.
Sadly, their disobedience to the command of God not to eat of the fruit of a certain tree caused great sorrow to their hearts, when they realize that they had become sinners and develop a fear of God’s presence, and seek a place to hide from him.
They had now become an imperfect couple and could not any longer live in this perfect garden, so they were put out to provide for themselves. They began to multiply as God had told them would happen, but they did not produce sinless children as they once were, they produce sinful children subject to death, because of their disobedience to God when they ate if the tree of which they were forbidden to do.
They had become no more their own, they and all their children would now be controlled by the evil spirit of the one who were cast out of the presence of God because of their rebelliousness.
God who is wiser and more loving than we can ever think or imagine, whose love is beyond what we can ever think, had from the foundation of the world made plans to rescue mankind whom He love with an everlasting love, and ready to forgive if we should ask.
God’s rescue plan is Christ Jesus, who came into this world without sins, not like the children of Adam and Eve; and is calling mankind with the loving call of who so ever will, let him come to me and I will abundantly pardon you.
I will come and abide with you forever: I will never leave nor forsake you at any-time, and will lead you to the ever-lasting Father because He will cause the Holy Spirit to come into us and abide forever, so we will never be alone when we head to His call to come unto Him and He will abide with us for-ever.
Now mankind has a choice to make, choose you this day who you will serve, the one who was born with sin and surject to die, or to follow the one who was not born with any sins and is not subject to separation from God?
Jesus is tenderly calling today as He has always in words such as if you will open your heart door I will come in and abide with you forever, I will never leave you nor forsake you at anytime, I will be with you forever.
Why was He able to say this? Because He bought us with a prize, with His own blood the only object that can cover man’s sin of disobedience from the eyes of God the Holy heavenly father who causes all things to be, He then concludes, I will never leave you nor forsake you, I will be with you wither so ever you go.
You and I along with all others who have invited Christ Jesus into our hearts can say every day where ever we are, we can say: no, never alone, He promise never to leave us alone, He claim us for His own, and promise never to leave us alone.
Now you can understand what it is that is on our minds when we are saying I am not alone; so when ever you are feeling lonely, just call Jesus, Jesus, there is something about that name, master, savior, He will be ours forever.
Now let us remember that our bodies is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own. You are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. we belong to Him we are not our own.
